Diabetes is a disease in which a person has high blood glucose, either because insulin production is inadequate, or because the body's cells do not respond properly to insulin. Diabetes can cause health complications leading to infections, foot ulcers, amputations, kidney failure, blindness, heart disease and stroke.
Aultman Orrville’s Diabetes Self-Management Training is a comprehensive program that provides participants with the knowledge to manage diabetes and empowers individuals to make appropriate lifestyle changes.
Participants will complete an initial self-assessment followed by up to 13 hours of diabetes education. The educational sessions are approximately two hours, and participants usually attend four to five sessions. Training is available in both group and one-on-one formats and includes a focus on training participants to maintain blood sugar control, which can prevent or delay complications of diabetes.
