ORRVILLE, Ohio (May 9, 2014) – Aultman Orrville employees teamed up with the Orrville Quota Club and the Cops for Kids program this year to encourage bike safety for area first-graders. This was the second year that Aultman Orrville Hospital participated in Aultman Health Foundation’s “Safety First” program.

The “Safety First” program has been encouraging helmet safety for first graders since 2005. Teams of Aultman employees visit local first-grade classrooms to teach a lesson on bike safety and at the end of the session, each student is given a new bicycle helmet.

In addition to learning that helmets are essential to safety, students are taught the rules of the road using a fun coloring book that they can take home and review again with an adult. The Orrville Quota Club and the Cops for Kids program also supplied each student with a drawstring bag for their new Aultman helmet!

From February through May, a total of 29 Aultman Orrville employees educated 384 students at five local schools. The elementary schools receiving education and helmets included Marshallville, Smithville, Rittman, Kidron and Orrville.
