The Aultman Orrville Hospital (AOH) team celebrated a huge milestone on Oct. 16 – the 500th surgery performed using the da Vinci robotic system.
Dr. Mark Lafferty with Aultman General Surgery has been the primary user of the system since it was first implemented in July 2020. Reflecting on the milestone, he said, “Doing robotic surgeries in Orrville has been great! The staff are very experienced and do an amazing job. This community is very fortunate to have access to the latest robotic surgeries so close to home.”
Jennifer Catrone CST, CSFA, education coordinator with AOH Surgical Services, added, “This is my second start-up robot team for an Aultman facility. I was part of the first robotic team in Canton in 2010 and now here in my hometown of Orrville. It has been great to be part of this accomplishment!’’
The da Vinci robotic system is primarily used for general surgeries at AOH, such as hernia repair and gall bladder removal. It is also used to perform hysterectomies and prostate procedures.
The milestone was celebrated with a luncheon, cake and balloons. Congratulations to Dr. Lafferty and the entire AOH team!
