The 16th annual “Lose-a-Ton, Win-a-Ton” weight loss contest by Growing Healthy Habits recently crowned its 2021 champion and winner of the $2,000 grand prize: Team “Mission Slimpossible” from Jarrett Logistics. This year’s annual weight loss contest had 130 participants who shed a combined total of 900 pounds in three months.
“Our goal is to make Orrville the healthiest community in Ohio,” said Dr. Andrew Naumoff, founder of the Growing Health Habits Coalition. “Although the goal of all teams together losing 2,000 pounds has not been met every year, the pounds lost and the awareness gained make everyone a winner.” Dr. Naumoff began the contest, now known as LAT-WAT, in 2004.
“Mission Slimpossible” was led by team captain James Howell, while teammate John Graham of P. Graham Dunn won a $50 Amazon gift card for having the most pounds lost. Overall, 29 people lost 10 – 19 pounds, three lost 20 – 29 pounds and two lost over 30 pounds.
“The LAT-WAT Team captains did a great job motivating their teams while working through challenging times,” said Dave Speicher, supervisor of sports and wellness, weight management and population health at Aultman Orrville Sports & Wellness. “They provided ongoing motivation and support to help their teams, not only on short-term progress but for real lifestyle change. It has been exciting to hear several captains provide communication on how team members have adopted and continue with positive lifestyle changes for not only weight loss, but also a healthier lifestyle following this program.”
Speicher said the GHH Coalition would like to thank the following sponsors for their participation and support: Aultman Orrville Hospital, Aultman Orrville Sports & Wellness, Baja West Coast Kitchen, Dunlap Family Physicians, Exchange Club of Orrville, Heartland Point, Ohio Hospice LifeCare, Orrville Area Safety Council, Orrville CrossFit, Serpentini Orrville, University of Akron Wayne College and Zephyrs Fitness.
