In honor of his nearly 40 years of delivering babies, caring for newborns and mentoring new providers at Aultman Orrville Hospital, the recently retired Dr. Charles Milligan now has a labor and delivery room dedicated to his legacy.
The Aultman Orrville Hospital medical staff selected the dedication of a room in the Family Birthing Center to honor Dr. Milligan, who has been a member of the medical staff at Wayne General, Dunlap Memorial, Dunlap Community and Aultman Orrville Hospital since 1981 – 39 years of service. As a family practitioner, Dr. Milligan delivered many babies at the hospital, spent countless hours mentoring new providers and was instrumental in supporting the hospital’s newborn care coverage, at times single-handedly supporting this program.
“I would describe my relationship with the hospital as being very strong and loyal,” said Dr. Milligan. “During my time at Aultman Orrville (Dunlap), I was the first physician on the Board of Trustees, where I quickly established positive rapport with the board members. While serving on the board, I had the privilege of participating in the selection of two CEOs. What is most meaningful to me is the strong relationship with the hospital and having the opportunity to be a part of the growth that has taken place during my time at Aultman Orrville.”
“Dr. Milligan is a true people’s physician,” said Dr. Katie Brenner, one of the many physicians Dr. Milligan mentored throughout his career. “In addition to the invaluable medical knowledge imparted and experience gleaned from his expertise in Osteopathic manipulative medicine, having Dr. Milligan as a mentor has conveyed kindness, empathy and a true passion for medicine. We should all be so lucky to have such exceptional mentors in our chosen fields.”
Dr. Milligan served on the Orrville Hospital Foundation Board of Directors for a nine-year term from 1992 – 2001, then rejoined again from 2007 – 2013. He served as a member of the board executive committee as treasurer, secretary, vice chair and chair, as well as a member of the strategic planning committee and board development committee. He has held many medical staff leadership positions over the years including serving on the medical staff executive committee and advancing through the officer positions to medical staff president in 1998, serving as chair of the hospital’s pharmacy and therapeutics committee and chair of the nursery division for many years.
