ORRVILLE, Ohio (April 10, 2018) – Aultman Orrville Hospital recently received the Ohio First Steps for Healthy Babies’ “Maternity Care Best Practice” award, recognizing the hospital’s commitment to best practices in breastfeeding support.
First Steps is a voluntary program through the Ohio Hospital Association and the Ohio Department of Health that recognizes maternity centers for taking steps to promote, protect and support breastfeeding.
In partnership with the Ohio Breastfeeding Alliance and the Ohio Lactation Consultants Association, The First Steps program also recognizes a facility’s commitment to best practices by choosing not to distribute infant formula or formula sample packs.
The First Steps program also honored Aultman Orrville with a four-star award recognizing the hospital’s achievements in the “Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding,” a list of evidence-based practices selected by global experts that have been shown to support breastfeeding.
According to Aultman Orrville Obstetrics Director Tara Snyder, MSN, RN, C-EFM, a star is awarded for every two steps out of the ten that a hospital achieves, as defined by the World Health Organization and Baby-Friendly USA.
