ORRVILLE, Ohio (Jan. 6, 2012) – Dunlap Community Hospital became a subsidiary of Aultman Health Foundation, effective Jan. 1, 2012. The definitive agreement was signed by Aultman Health Foundation and Dunlap Community Hospital on Dec. 20, 2011. The new name of Dunlap Community Hospital will be Aultman Orrville Hospital, and the name transition will occur over the next few weeks.

The new arrangement builds on an existing 15-year relationship between these two nonprofit hospitals. The affiliation will give patients in Orrville and the surrounding area greater access to high-quality specialty care and advanced services. Aultman is a regional leader in cardiac care, neurosurgery, cancer care, women’s health and orthopedics. It is also the largest hospital in Stark County, with 808 licensed beds and more than 575 active physicians on staff. Aultman was founded in 1890 by civic leader Cornelius Aultman and is Stark County’s first hospital.

Dunlap Community Hospital is a critical access 25-bed hospital with 250 employees. Dunlap has served the Orrville and Wayne County communities for more than 60 years. The hospital was constructed after a very generous donation from Orrville native George T. Dunlap, who wanted to give something back to his hometown. As part of the Aultman-Dunlap agreement, The George T. Dunlap Community Foundation will be established to promote wellness and health education in the community.

According to Edward J. Roth III, president and CEO of Aultman Health Foundation, the arrangement will allow Dunlap to remain a not-for-profit, community hospital with a local voice. “We welcome Dunlap’s employees, physicians and patients to the Aultman family. We’re excited about the opportunity to work together to meet the health care needs of Orrville and surrounding communities,” he said.

Dr. Marchelle Suppan, president and CEO of Dunlap Community Hospital, agrees. “We want to strengthen the services upon which our community depends. This arrangement will allow us to do that.”

Suppan will be hosting three community meetings to discuss the new arrangement and answer any questions. The meetings are open to the public and will be held in the Community Room at Dunlap Community Hospital. The first meeting will take place Saturday, Jan. 14 at 10 a.m. Two meetings will take place Wednesday, Jan. 18; one at 5 p.m. and one at 7 p.m.

A community open house will be held in late April to celebrate the integration. The celebration will take place at Aultman Orrville Hospital, located at 832 S. Main St. in Orrville.
